My husband and I visited Oh Baby Sushi last fall. Oh Baby Sushi is an delightful sushi restaurant in a strip mall in Redwood City. It has a large variety of sushi dishes from traditional flavors to many vegetarian and vegan rolls. The menu includes appetizers, salads, soups, sushi, noodle soups, and bento boxes.
It was not a very large restaurant but it was very busy. When I see that a restaurant is busy it must be good. We put our names down on a list and waited an appropriate amount of time. My husband and I requested to be seated outside because we had brought our dog with us. The atmosphere seemed delightfully social and the servers were very cordial to guests. Most of the tables were meant to seat two to four guests, but larger parties were accommodated appropriately.
I started my meal with miso soup, which was delightful. It was the right temperature, not too hot. My husband ordered hot green tea for himself, which was presented in an adorable cup with pictures of sushi on it. The servers were quick to get out our drinks and appetizers to us, despite the crowds.
For my entree I ordered a vegetarian sweet potato tempura roll and a Rock’n Roll which has BBQ eel and avocado wrapped in rice and seaweed. I felt the sweet potato tempura had the perfect amount of crispiness on the outside and softness on the inside. I also enjoyed the sweetness of the BBQ eel in my Rock’n Roll. I liked how well the avocado and eel paired with each other.
My husband ordered a bento which included miso soup, a side salad, and steamed rice. For bentos a diner can choose any two or three entree items from a list. He chose a California roll, a spicy tuna roll, and the tempura mix, which were vegetables and shrimp. The California roll had a wonderful creaminess to it from the way the crab was prepared. The spicy tuna roll has a lovely bite to it, without being too spicy. The tempura mix had a lovely crispy coating, with the vegetables and shrimped perfectly cooked within.
We had a lovely time and will definitely come again. We have friends and family members that have vegetarian and vegan preferences thus Oh Baby Sushi will be a fine choice because of all the variety they have in their menu.
Due to COVID 19 this restaurant is only open for Takeout at this time.
