The Spot

The Spot is a food hall in Rockville, Maryland. It boasts a variety of Asian foods and beverages at reasonable prices. The hall is located in Rockville Town Square. It is a lovely place to eat and socialize!

I first heard about the Spot from a friend of mine. He and I love to go to Asian restaurants in the area and try out all kinds of foods. When he discovered a food hall full of Asian restaurant stalls I knew I had to try it for myself. The first thing I noticed when I got there was how modern the building was. It was black and tall with tons of windows and outdoor space for diners to enjoy.

I walked in and saw a large bar and several restaurant stalls designed with stylish wood and textured stone. There was tastefully done track lighting to highlight the food stalls and soft glowing colorful lights to show off the food at your dining table. It was one of the best food lighting dining experiences I ever had! The best part was all the food smells everywhere. The Spot hosts several restaurants; Alpaca Dessert, Cheers Cut, Gong Cha, Mian, Poki DC, and Tamashi.

Gong Cha Tea

My first stop was Gong Cha. It is a shop that specializes in Taiwanese bubble tea. I ordered the Pearl Black Milk Tea off their Top 10 drinks Menu. It is a classic drink flavor pairing of black tea, milk, and tapioca pearls. The tea was brewed beautifully, it tasted smooth and sweet. The tapioca pearls had the perfect amount of chewiness. It was such a treat!

Gong Cha works like most other bubble tea shops. You pick out the drink flavor you want, pick out the size (Medium or Large), choose the amount of sweetness (100%, 70%, 50%, 30%, or no sugar), choose the amount of ice cubes (100%, 70%, 30%, or no ice), and then pick a topping. Gong Cha has more than just milk tea, they also have brewed tea, and their milk foam series which is tea with milk foam on top of it.

Mian Pull Noodle

My next stop was Mian Pull Noodle. I have always had a weakness for Chinese hand pull noodles so I was ecstatic to see such a noodle shop at The Spot. Mian makes their own noodles by hand. You can taste the effort in every bite!

I ordered the Chicken Stir Fried Noodle Dish. It was a quaint bowl of noodles with bits of stir fried chicken, cabbage, red onion, and bean sprouts. The noodles were cooked to perfection and sauced magnificently. The vegetables complimented the dish well and added a bit of crunch. The chicken was soft and succulent. I loved it!

At Mian you can order stir fried noodles with chicken, beef, shrimp, seafood, or vegetables. If you prefer soup, Mian has a variety! First you have a choice of their original soup stock or spicy braised broth. Then choose between flat, skinny, or hand shaved noodles. There are different styles of beef you can have with your pull noodle soup; beef, beef flank, beef tendon, beef tripe, an assortment of beef, and spare ribs. You also have the options of chicken, roast duck, and roast pork. If you want no meat, Mian has plain pull noodle soup you can order too.

Mian has more than just noodles. There are dumplings you can order that are filled with either pork, chicken, or vegetables. If you want a sandwich they sell a stewed pork burger and a spicy cumin lamb burger.

I had a very positive dining experience at The Spot and I cannot wait to go back again and try the rest of the restaurants!
